Carolina Spirit in Action with the Tepper Foundation

On February 10, Samaritan’s Feet kicked off an exciting season of shoe distributions in partnership with the Tepper Foundation at Windsor Park Elementary in Charlotte, North Carolina. This event marked the beginning of 7 upcoming distributions that will serve children in both North and South Carolina.

From the moment students entered the gym at Windsor Park Elementary, the energy was contagious. Excitement filled the room as children ran under a giant inflatable of the Carolina Panthers’ beloved mascot, Sir Purr, and made their way to be fitted for brand new shoes. But beyond the excitement was something even more meaningful. One by one, 534 students were personally fitted and served with care by dedicated volunteers who helped make the day both meaningful and memorable. Each child left not only with a new pair of shoes, but with a reminder that they are surrounded by a community that sees and believes in them.

From Student to Servant Leader

Adding to the excitement was the presence of members of the Carolina Panthers organization. Through the Tepper Foundation partnership, Panthers staff joined us on the ground, serving students and bringing their support directly into the community.

We were especially honored to have Carolina Panthers TopCats Kionna Perkins and Lauren Porterfield serving students throughout the day.

For Kionna, this distribution was deeply personal. She once walked the halls of Windsor Park Elementary as a student herself.

“It feels really good to be back here in my old stomping grounds,” Kionna shared. We’re here serving students and helping provide shoes they may not have at home. I look forward to continuing to serve the community and hopefully coming back to support even more youth.”

Seeing her serve in the same place where she once attended school was a powerful reminder of what community investment can create. The very halls that once shaped her are now part of her story of giving back.

Grateful for Partnership

We are deeply grateful to the Tepper Foundation for making this season of service possible. Their commitment to communities across North Carolina is creating meaningful opportunities for children right here at home.

As we prepare for the remaining distributions in this series, we are excited for what is ahead and encouraged by the momentum already building.

That early effort was fueled by parents at the school, local community members, and a shared belief in the Samaritan’s Feet vision to create a world with zero shoeless children. Among them was Terroll Joiner (TJ), a father and then-PTA president who played a key role in launching that first drive.
